Veteran swimming and diving coach Dave Allen announced Thursday that he will be stepping down as head of the program WILMINGTON, NC Mar. 13, 2014 – Expressing a desire to spend more time with his wife, children, and three grandsons, longtime coach Dave Allen, the founding father and architect of UNCW’s swimming and diving program, is heading for dry land. Allen announced his retirement on Thursday after coaching 43 years at three different institutions and will step down officially on June 30, 2014. GREENSBORO, NC Mar. 10, 2014 – UNCW freshmen Allen Crosby and Nathan Lane finished 30th and 33rd, respectively, in the 3-meter Board at the NCAA Zone B Championships on Monday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. “Today was a great experience for Allen and Nathan,” said UNCW Diving Coach Beau Bunn following Monday’s event. “This was a very difficult Zone, one that included Duke’s Nick McCrory (Olympic Bronze Medalist) and Tennessee’s Mauricio Robles, who finished 1-2 in the Zone. For the entirety of the meet, the Cougars set a combined 16 school records and won two events, both by senior Sarah Boyle. COLLEGE PARK, MD Feb. 28, 2014 – College of Charleston senior Sarah Boyle led the Cougars with a spectacular performance on the third day of the CAA Swimming & Diving championships at the University of Maryland. Boyle became Charleston’s first CAA event winner with her title in the 100 backstroke. She broke the school record with a time of 54.16 which also represented an NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time. Sophomore Alex Wood had a strong finish in the 200 freestyle event, placing fifth with a time of 1:38.44. Will Kantlehner placed sixth in the 100 breast with a time of 56.93. COLLEGE PARK, MD Feb. 27, 2014 – College of Charleston reached the medal stand twice in the eight finals on Thursday night at the CAA Swimming & Diving Championships from the University of Maryland. The men’s 200 freestyle relay team set a new school record with a third-place time of 1:21.20, led by Alex Wood, Will Kantlehner, Dave Sherrier and Greg Karel. Wood received another bronze medal with his third-place finish in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall in 20.21. Karel followed him with a ninth-place finish in the fastest sprint event (20.67). 1st Day Standings 1st Day Results COLLEGE PARK, MD Feb. 26, 2014 – The 12-time defending champion UNCW men’s team stands second and the women are tied for seventh after the opening day of the Colonial Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Maryland. Only five events were contested on Wednesday and the league’s teams return to the water Thursday for the second day of the championships.
