GREENVILLE, SC September 21, 2013 – Ashlan Ramsey shot a one under par 71 to lead Clemson to a second place standing after two rounds of the Furman Invitational in Greenville, SC. The Tigers are five shots out of the team lead held by GRU Augusta (formerly Augusta State), entering Sunday morning’s final round. GRU Augusta stands at 573 after 36 holes on the par 72 Furman University Course. Clemson is second at 578 after shooting a three over par 291 on Saturday. Competing against some of the nation’s premier programs, the Cougar women finished the day in seventh place, while the men, led by junior Mackenzie Johnston (Hilton Head S.C.) – who broke the men’s 8K school record – also finished in seventh. GREENVILLE, SC September 7, 2013 – The College of Charleston men’s soccer team fell, 1-0, in overtime at Stone Stadium on Saturday evening. The Cougars (1-2) were outshot, 16-17, but defended well to force the game into overtime. Freshman forward Xavier Rajpaul (Port of Spain, Trinidad) led the Cougars with four shot attempts. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Young (Greenville, S.C.) made his first career start and made three saves to keep a shutout through regulation, but Eli Pinner scored on the first – and only – shot of the overtime period in the 94th minute. Trailing 4-1, the big fifth inning began with back-to-back doubles by Drew Turocy and David Chester. Two batters later, Aneury Tavarez lined a single to center for another run, and a wild pitch by Savannah starter Jake Kuebler (2-5) tied the game later in the inning. Diaz fires a complete game in Drive’s nightcap victory Greenville, SC July 6, 2013 – The Greenville Drive (9-8, 31-55) and Savannah Sand Gnats (7-9, 50-35) showed up at Fluor Field for a rain delay on Saturday, but somehow managed to squeeze in two seven-inning games in between. Besides the rain, terrific starting pitching was the story of both games, as the Drive avenged a 3-0 loss in game one to take down the Sand Gnats 3-1 in the nightcap. After surviving a 1:32 rain delay before game two, Drive starter Luis Diaz (4-4) cruised to a complete game victory despite allowing a first-inning run. Gates open at 4 PM; Tickets for Thursday’s rainout can be exchanged for any remaining home game Greenville, SC July 6, 2013 – Due to inclement weather, Thursday’s game at Fluor Field between the Greenville Drive and Savannah Sand Gnats has been postponed. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday. Both games on Saturday will be seven innings and first pitch is at 5:00. Any fans with tickets to Thursday’s game can exchange them at the Fluor Field box office for tickets to any remaining 2013 home game, subject to availability. Friday night’s game is on as scheduled, with first pitch set for 7:05. Fireworks will be shot off postgame.
