CofC-Charleston Southern Baseball Moved To Wednesday

CHARLESTON, SC March 17, 2014 – College of Charleston baseball’s road game at Charleston Southern has been moved to Wednesday, March 19 at 2 p.m. The game was moved due to heavy and accumulating precipitation throughout the Lowcountry area that is expected to continue into Tuesday. The game was originally scheduled to be under the lights on Tuesday evening. This is the second change necessitated by the current low-pressure system after CofC had to cancel its Sunday afternoon game with Appalachian State as the rain started. Fans will be able to listen to the game on the Charleston Sports Network with free audio on UStream.

STATESBORO, GA March 16, 2014 – Senior Alex Ellis (Austin, Texas) shot 1-over par to lead the College of Charleston men’s golf team to a sixth-place finish on the final day of tournament play at the 35th Annual Schenkel Invitational held at the par-72, Forest Heights Country Club. Aside from host and tournament champion Georgia Southern (-14), the Cougars were the only other unranked team to finish among the top half of the pack. CofC Women’s Tennis Set to Host Hofstra in CAA Home Opener

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC March 16, 2014 – The College of Charleston women’s tennis team is set to host the Pride of Hofstra University tomorrow in their Colonial Athletic Association home opener, at the CofC Tennis Complex, where doubles play is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. The College (7-6) enters the most arduous stretch of their schedule Monday, in which they are set to play six matches over a six day period. The previously ranked Cougars went 3-2 this past week at home, grinding out victories over Appalachian State, Southern Miss and Richmond, while falling to No. 25 Notre Dame and No. 6 North Carolina. CofC-Appalachian State Baseball Rained Out

MT. PLEASANT, SC March 16, 2014 – College of Charleston’s baseball tournament finale against Appalachian State has been rained out. No makeup date has been announced at this time. The rainout marks the first game cancellation of the season and second straight year that CofC and Appalachian State have been rained out on a Sunday series finale. The Cougars (15-4) finished the tournament with a 2-1 record with a pair of wins over Michigan last night and an 8-6 loss to Kent State on Friday. College of Charleston will now look forward to a Tuesday road game at Charleston Southern, scheduled for 6 p.m. It marks CofC’s first night game at CSU since the Buccaneers added baseball lights this season.

Charleston Battery defeats Clemson in pre-season scrimmage

Charleston, SC March 15, 2014 – The Charleston Battery defeated Clemson University by a score of two goals to nil on Saturday afternoon at Blackbaud Stadium in a pre-season scrimmage.  Zach Prince and Adam Mena supplied the goals to lead the Battery to victory. Charleston opened the scoring in the 10th minute after striker Heviel Cordoves broke forward down the left side.  Cordoves whipped a cross into the middle and Zack Prince snapped his header past the Clemson goalkeeper. The Battery doubled its lead in the 35th minute from a corner-kick.  Prince curled the ball into the near-post and Adam Mena pulled off his defender and sent a glancing header home. CofC Cougars Sunday Softball Canceled

CONWAY, SC March 16, 2014 – The College of Charleston softball team’s Sunday contests have been canceled due to inclement weather systems in the area. The Cougars were slated to face Fordham and Georgia State at the CCU Softball Complex as part of the Chanticleer showcase. CofC will now return to action on Tuesday, March 18 when the Cougars play host to former Southern Conference rival Georgia Southern. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

PLEASANT, SC March 15, 2014 – College of Charleston baseball won two one-run games in a doubleheader against Michigan in the second day of the College of Charleston tournament at Patriots Point. The Cougars (15-4) won a 3-2 game in the first seven-inning contest and then came back to win 4-3 in the second seven-inning game against the Wolverines (7-12-1). The short-handed Charleston pitching staff performed valiantly, holding the Wolverines to a combined five runs on 12 hits through the two games. Updated Tee Times PINEHURST, NC March 15, 2014 – First-round tournament play at the College of Charleston-hosted 2014 Pinehurst Challenge was suspended due to darkness at the Pinehurst Resort’s No. 1 course on Saturday. The Cougars, one of the first groups to finish before play was called at 7:45 p.m. (ET), went into the clubhouse with a nine-stroke lead over Jacksonville State (+15) shooting a first-round 294 (+6). Sophomore Morgan Webber (Moore, S.C.) carded the lowest round of the day with a 3-under 69 which tied a career-low round, while freshman Laura Fuenfstueck (Frankfurt, Germany) shot a 2-under 70.
