Box Score HOUSTON, TX March 21, 2014 – Houston’s Aaron Garza tossed a complete game to lead UH over College of Charleston, 8-3, in the first game of the series in the Cougars’ first-ever meeting in program history. The loss snapped Charleston’s (16-5) three-game winning streak, while No. 21 Houston (17-4) won its second in a row. Stephen Gorman Created His Own Algorithm to Make March Madness Picks CHARLESTON, SC March 21, 2014 – There’s a lot on the line for basketball fans who submitted a NCAA tournament bracket to the Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge, and College of Charleston junior Stephen Gorman has a secret weapon. Math. Gorman developed his own weighting algorithm to make his picks. He started with the Massey rating model (which has 65 percent accuracy on its own), then looked at each game individually. By Troy Baranik Charleston, SC March 20, 2014 – The St. Andrews University men’s  lacrosse team won their first division game on Wednesday evening topping The Citadel 10-8. The win moves SAU into second place in the division at 1-1 and 3-5 overall. The top two finishers in the 5 team division will qualify for the 8 team conference tournament in April. The Citadel falls to 3-5 overall and 0-1. St. Andrews only managed to score one goal apiece in the first and fourth quarters. However, their offense exploded during the middle two quarters scoring 4 goals in each as they hung on for the 10-8 victory. Charleston Battery defeats Georgia Southern University in final pre-season scrimmage

CHARLESTON, SC March 18, 2014 – The Charleston Battery defeated Georgia Southern University by a score of seven goals to nil in its final pre-season scrimmage on Tuesday afternoon at Blackbaud Stadium.  Mamadou Diouf registered a second-half hat-trick to lead the Battery to a comfortable victory. Charleston pressed from the opening whistle and scored four unanswered goals in the first-half with Zach Prince, Heviel Cordoves, Jarad van Schaik and Adam Mena all converting chances. Tuesday’s CofC Softball Game Postponed

CHARLESTON, SC March 17, 2014 – The College of Charleston softball team’s game with Georgia Southern has been postponed due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions at Patriots Point. The coaches plan to reschedule the game, originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, but no makeup date has been set at this point. The Cougars will now prepare for a trip to Newark, Del., for their first-ever Colonial Athletic Association series against Delaware. The Cougars and Blue Hens are set for a three-game series over the weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 22 and single-game series finale on Sunday, March 23. The action at the UD Softball Stadium is scheduled for 12 p.m. on both days.
