CofC Cougars Finish Fourth at Szambecki Team Race

CHARLESTON, SC March 24, 2014 – The No. 4-ranked College of Charleston coed sailing team finished fourth at the 2014 Aaron Szambecki Team Race held over the weekend in Norfolk, Va. Hosted by Old Dominion, sailors were met with temperatures in the low 70s on shore with a sunny southwest wind. The Cougars went 14-7 against the eight-team field comprised of ODU, Georgetown, U.S. Naval Academy, Dartmouth, Stanford, St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Yale. St. Mary’s won the regatta with a 16-5 record. CHARLESTON, SC March 22, 2014 – The Charleston Battery opened its season Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium with a 1-1 draw against the Orlando City Lions in front of 3,773.  The Battery took the lead in the 65th minute through Mamdou Diouf but Orlando’s Austin daLuz leveled ten minutes later to salvage a draw for the 2013 champs. Neither team was able to pull ahead in the first half despite chances for both teams.
