Wilmington, NC – The Charleston Battery lost to the Wilmington Hammerheads by a score of two goals to one Saturday night at Legion Stadium in front of 4,657. After taking an early lead the Battery conceded twice before halftime and were unable to break down a resolute Wilmington defense in the second half. Charleston, SC – The Charleston Battery tied the Wilmington Hammerheads 2-2 on Friday night at Blackbaud Stadium in front of 3,557 fans. Nicki Paterson and Taylor Mueller both recorded goals for the Battery but it wasn’t enough to edge past the Hammerheads. With the draw the Charleston Battery will remain in third position three points ahead of Wilmington who occupy the fourth spot. The Hammerheads opened up scoring late in the first half with a goal from forward Andres Cuero. In the 35th minute Wilmington was awarded with a free kick 40 yards out. Edisto Beach, SC – The final chapter of 24th SC Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series was completed the last weekend in July at Edisto Beach. The weather was excellent with three viable days of fishing. Participation was up from the previous year, with many spectators at the nightly weigh-ins, making it a great family-friendly event. A total of 27 boats participated in the tournament, and 88 billfish were caught and released, including 82 Sailfish and 6 Blue Marlin. “This season, billfishing was phenomenal and the 88 fish released during the Edisto Tournament pushed the Series to reach a new record number of billfish releases!
