Nov. 10, 2011 GREENVILLE, N.C. — East Carolina has received a National Letter of Intent from Marshall Guilmette and Michael Zangari announced head basketball coach Jeff Lebo on Thursday. Inaugural Bob Boyd Invitational Golf Tournament Raises Over $20,000 and Adds 32 to National Bone Marrow Registry
Wilmington, N.C. – November 7, 2011 – Pam Boyd, widow of Robert McLean “Bob” Boyd Jr., possibly the most accomplished golfer to ever come out of NC, announced that the first Bob Boyd Invitational raised over $20,000 for The National Bone Marrow Registry, The UNC Lineberger Cancer Research Center, SECU Family House @UNC and The Bob Boyd Scholarship at Pine Valley Country Club. Onslow County, NC – The Onslow County Department of Social Services will begin accepting applications for the “Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) Thursday, December 1, 2011. Eligible households are those housing only residents that are 60 years of age or older OR households with person(s) receiving government disability benefits. Applications for all other households will begin February 1, 2012. Applications will be taken through March 31, 2012 or until funds have been exhausted. Chapel Hill, N.C. – University of North Carolina senior safety Matt Merletti had successful arthroscopic surgery to remove loose cartilage in his left knee Tuesday at UNC Hospitals. Dr. Alex Creighton performed the surgery. Merletti’s knee ligaments were evaluated and surgical reconstruction was not required. His playing status will be updated at the beginning of Carolina’s bowl practice in December.

Located in the North Pacific Ocean, the swirling vortex of human garbage has grown to a size that rivals continents. Nov. 10, 2011 2011 Capital One Academic All-District Teams GREENVILLE, N.C. -East Carolina sophomore defensive lineman Matt Milner has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 First Team, according to an announcement Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America. A physics major, Milner earned the initial academic all-district award of his career with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. By making the first team, he is eligible for Capital One Academic All-America honors. Milner, who redshirted during his first year with the Pirate football program, was named to the 2010 Conference USA All-Academic Team.
