Luckily for our Topsail Island hatchlings, there’s a whole passel of “nanas” ready to love and care for any November babies. After all these years, neither the Topsail Turtle Project volunteers nor the hospital crew should have been too surprised to find that over fifty hatchlings somehow managed to survive hurricane damage and the up-and-down weather of this month. North Carolina advances to NCAA second round next Friday. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior reserve midfielder Rebecca Crabb scored on a header in the 67th minute to give 19th-ranked North Carolina the lead for good and the Tar Heels went on to beat 25th-ranked William and Mary Saturday afternoon before 717 fans at sun-drenched Fetzer Field.   The win ended a historic three-match losing streak for the Tar Heels who improved to 12-5-1 on the season and 109-8-1 in NCAA Tournament matches. William and Mary, the Colonial Athletic Association champion, saw its season end at 17-3-2. School Group Made History: First to Tour Permanent Exhibit

  On Friday, Nov. 4, fourth-grade students in Ms. Jennifer Baker’s class at Bonlee Elementary School in Chatham County made history. They were the first school group to tour the permanent exhibition The Story of North Carolina, which opened to the public on Nov. 5 at the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh. Four of Ms. Baker’s students helped cut the ribbon to officially open this major exhibit that will be visited by generations of school groups and museum patrons. After the ribbon was cut, the fourth graders took off in a flash to explore the exhibit. The Story of North Carolina is the largest exhibit that the N.C. Museum of History has ever produced. Nov. 8, 2011 GREENVILLE, N.C. – Two feet in. That was the mantra adopted by the East Carolina women’s basketball team at the beginning of its preseason workout schedule a few weeks ago. Head Coach Heather Macy, her staff and players are banking on that vision to take them far during the 2011-12 campaign. With just months to acclimate herself to a new home, Macy guided the 2010-11 squad to the program’s third-straight winning season.               The Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League (CPL) announced they are teaming up with the US Marine Corps in their annual toy drive, Toys for Tots.   The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.  The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.   The Sharks have partnered […]
