Move Intended To Raise Awareness of Disappearing Amphibian Populations Raleigh, NC, Dec 15, 2011 – Governor Bev Purdue of North Carolina issued a proclamation late last week officially declaring April 28, 2012 “Save The Frogs Day” in the state of North Carolina, and calling its observance to all citizens. The Governor’s move was prompted by the request of 13 year old Rachel Hopkins, an 8th grade student at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh. Canes Recall Justin Peters from Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled goaltender Justin Peters from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). To make room for Peters on the roster, goaltender Mike Murphy was reassigned to Charlotte. Peters, 25, has posted a 6-6-1 record, a 2.49 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage in 14 games with Charlotte this season. He was named the Reebok/AHL Goaltender of the Month for November after posting a 5-1-1 record with a 1.63 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage in seven appearances. I am still here, alive and well!  :) My previous post was dated mid October, and it has been a long time.  Basically, there really has not been too much memorable action on my part over the past month and a half to report on.  Additionally, with our new little dude in the family, the pre-dawn wake up calls definitely wear on and affect those afternoon possible runs south for a few waves and wind.   Often the little guy is asleep under my desk during the afternoons as I work on coding algorithms.  Interesting a fellow dad recently mentioned to me:  “One little one is an adjustment, two is a game changer!”  Well, two at this age definitely has an […]

Hartzell Named Executive Director of the Center for International Understanding

CHAPEL HILL – Adam Hartzell, an attorney and former executive director of InterAct in Raleigh, has been named executive director of the University of North Carolina system’s Center for International Understanding (Center). The appointment, effective January 9, 2012, was announced today by UNC President Tom Ross. Hartzell will succeed Millie Ravenel, who retired this summer after 32 years in the post.   As head of the Center, Hartzell will advance a key University goal articulated in the UNC Tomorrow strategic planning process: increase North Carolina’s global readiness. Greenville, NC Dec. 8, 2011 – Fans looking for last minute holiday gift ideas need look no further than inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum, as East Carolina University has announced special ticket opportunities for upcoming men’s basketball games. The Pirates are currently offering discounted lower-level bleacher tickets for all remaining December home games for $5 each. ECU hosts Coastal Carolina (Dec. 19), Gardner-Webb (Dec. 22), N.C. SwampDogs Spread Holiday Cheer in Annual Fayetteville Rotary Christmas Parade

The SwampDogs were out in full force to participate in the annual Fayetteville Rotary Christmas Parade. At 11am the vehicles started rolling, including fire trucks, high school bands, princesses and many more. Many onlookers showed up early to get the best seats dressed in layers to stay warm during the cool morning. Fun-Go, Cookie, the Sweethearts and the Dogs front office and families offered holiday greetings to the large crowd that lined the length of the parade route. The SwampDogs would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

To make room for Bowman on the 23-man roster, goaltender Brian Boucher has been placed on injured reserve. Bowman is being recalled on an emergency basis for forward Jeff Skinner, who is out with an undisclosed injury. Bowman, 22, has scored eight goals and earned six assists (14 points) in 23 games with the Checkers this season, and also has skated in two NHL games this year with the Hurricanes.
