TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Feb. 24, 2012 – The East Carolina softball team split its two games Friday at the Easton Bama Bash, topping SIU Edwardsville 6-5 in 10 innings before falling to No. 2 Alabama 4-2. A bases-loaded walk by sophomore Alex Fieldhouse plated the winning run in the opening contest, as the Pirates (6-4) came back for the win after allowing the Cougars (5-5) to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. GREENVILLE, N.C. Feb. 24, 2012 – The East Carolina men’s tennis team remained unbeaten at home Friday with a 7-0 win over the Christopher Newport Captains. The Pirates dropped only two matches all day at the Indoor Tennis Center to improve to 8-3 overall this season. The duo of John Schmitt and Patriek Wolterbeek had the first win for the Pirates, beating CNU’s Kyle Tobin and Robbie Wagner, 8-1 at No. 3. African American Watermen Featured in N.C. Maritime Museum Exhibit

BEAUFORT – Images from the early the 1870s-1980s capture the workaday life of African American watermen in an exhibit at the N.C. Maritime Museum in Beaufort, through early June. The “African Americans and North Carolina Maritime History” exhibit’s 33 photographs are from the museum’s collection.  Scenes capture oystering, seafood processing, the Menhaden Chantymen singers, rescuers at coastal lifesaving stations, and other examples of the ways the watermen affected the state’s history, economy and society. The N.C. Maritime Museum in Beaufort is located at 315 Front Street.  The three N.C. Maritime Museums are the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, Hatteras; the N.C. GREENVILLE, N.C. – With heavy rains scheduled for eastern North Carolina Friday evening, ECU officials have announced that day one of the Ninth Annual Keith LeClair Classic has been postponed and all four teams in the tournament field will play twice on Saturday, Feb. 25. Hurricanes’ Foundation Announces Funding Changes

RALEIGH, NC– Doug Warf, Senior Director of Marketing and Executive Director of the Kids ‘N Community Foundation, today announced that the Foundation’s board has ratified changes for the Foundation’s funding structure. Beginning with the Fall 2012 grant cycle, the Kids ‘N Community Foundation will fulfill grants at three different levels: GOAL Grants, Game Changer Grants and Future Canes Grants. Museum of History in Raleigh presents a rare opportunity to hear firsthand about the 2004 discovery and subsequent excavation of the ancient Harbor of Theodosius, the principal port of Byzantium or Constantinople, in present-day Istanbul, Turkey. Dr. Ufuk Kocabas, Director of Istanbul University’s Department of Marine Archeology and the Yenikapi Shipwrecks Project, will present a lecture and question-and-answer session about the archaeological findings of the ancient harbor beneath the modern Yenikapi neighborhood of Istanbul on Thursday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the museum. Feb. 24, 2012 – The East Carolina men’s tennis match against Christopher Newport on Friday will be played at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center at 4 p.m., due to the threat to inclement weather. Sunday’s match against James Madison will also be played indoors beginning at 11 a.m. ECU enters Friday’s match with an overall record of 7-3 after suffering a 5-1 loss at Appalachian State on Saturday. All seven of its triumphs have come at home this year and each of its three losses have been on the road.
