Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville SwampDogs posted 13 hits on Tuesday night, but came up just short against the Columbia Blowfish in a 7-6 loss at “The Swamp.” Tyler Ding (Tampa) was a key contributor the Dogs offensively, as he went 3-for-4 with three RBIs on the night. Columbia recorded four runs in the top of the third to take the lead on Fayetteville, but the Dogs answered in the fourth with five runs of their own to gain a one-run advantage. Sits tight in Wilmington for remainder of season Wilmington, NC – The Wilmington Hammerheads have officially announced that Corey Hertzog, whom has been on loan from the New York Red Bulls, will remain with the team through their championship run. Hertzog was originally on loan to the Hammerheads until the end of June prior to returning to the Red Bulls. “This is a great opportunity for me,” states Hertzog. “It’s an opportunity to play more games and score more goals.” Hertzog’s debut appearance with the Hammerheads was in Richmond on May 26 at City Stadium. New Hanover County, NC – New Hanover County residents are now able to witness the transformation of a neighborhood park that has been around since the mid-1970’s. The ribbon was cut this morning for the reopening of Arrowhead Park. The million dollar renovation included putting in picnic shelters, restrooms, multi-purpose field, basketball court, two tennis courts, and an 18-hole disc golf course. Prio to it’s redevelopment, Arrowhead Park was not much more than a sandy softball field that had fallen into disrepair. Renovations were made through the 2006 Parks and Greenspace Bond Referendum. The injustices faced by African Americans were some of the most significant factors leading to the American Civil War (1861-1865).
