June 28, 2012 – Pirate junior All-America Tynita Butts took the next step in realizing her Olympic dreams Thursday, finishing in a tie for first to qualify for the high jump finals at the 2012 United States Track and Field Olympic Trials at historic Hayward Field. 2012 USA Track and Field Olympic Trials Central Competing in the second of two flights, Butts cleared 1.79 and 1.83 meters on her first attempt – one of only six competitors to avoid a miss in the preliminary. NBA Draft Brings Back Memories for Buzz Peterson

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – With the National Basketball Association’s draft just hours away, UNCW’s Buzz Peterson finds himself on a unique list: He is one of 32 active NCAA Division I head basketball coaches that was selected in the NBA Draft. The Cleveland Cavaliers tabbed Peterson in the seventh round of the 1985 draft. Peterson, who begins his third season with the Seahawks in 2012-13, will be watching closely when the selection show begins at 7 p.m. EST at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville SwampDogs posted 13 hits on Tuesday night, but came up just short against the Columbia Blowfish in a 7-6 loss at “The Swamp.” Tyler Ding (Tampa) was a key contributor the Dogs offensively, as he went 3-for-4 with three RBIs on the night. Columbia recorded four runs in the top of the third to take the lead on Fayetteville, but the Dogs answered in the fourth with five runs of their own to gain a one-run advantage.
