Wilson, N.C. – After two straight victories to close the first half of the Coastal Plain League season, the Wilmington Sharks (16-12, 0-1) couldn’t keep the wins rolling into the second half as they fell to the Wilson Tobs (10-19, 1-0) by a final score of 4-3 at Fleming Stadium. Wilson scored the first two runs of the game, with one each in the first and third innings. The opener came on a throwing error, allowing a runner to cross home all the way from first base. Red Cross Responds to Residents Affected By Severe Thunderstorms

Greenville, NC July 1, 2012 — Disaster Action Teams for the American Red Cross Pitt County Chapter have already responded to two calls of major damage to a residence following the severe thunderstorms that rolled through the area this evening. Red Cross workers are on the ground in the affected areas doing damage assessment and determining the immediate emergency needs of the storm victims. Additionally, the Red Cross has sent out their Emergency Response Vehicle to Beaufort County where more than 40 residents have been affected by the storms. Red Cross volunteers and staff remain on standby and will work closely with emergency and government officials to assess the needs of storm victims and open a temporary shelter if needed. […]

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. – The game scheduled for July 1 at Big Rock Stadium between the Morehead City Marlins and Fayetteville SwampDogs has been rained out. The game has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Friday, July 6 in Morehead City. With the rain out, the Marlins sit at 10-18 overall and 0-1 in the second half while the SwampDogs stay at 18-10 and have yet to play a game this half of the season. The Marlins are back in action tomorrow night as they travel to Fleming Stadium to take on the Wilson Tobs. Netminder appeared in seven NHL games for Carolina in 2011-12 RALEIGH, NC – Ron Francis, Vice President of Hockey Operations for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Justin Peters on a two-year contract. The deal will pay Peters $525,000 in the NHL and $105,000 in the AHL, with a guarantee of at least $250,000 in 2012-13. He will be paid $550,000 in 2013-14.   Peters, 25, split the 2011-12 season between Carolina and the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. The deal will pay Sutter $550,000 on the NHL level or $105,000 on the American Hockey League (AHL) level, with a guarantee of at least $150,000.
