Cody Arnoux added to Hammerheads roster from Real Salt Lake Wilmington, NC – The Wilmington Hammerheads officially announced today at a press conference the signing of forward Cody Arnoux. The live press conference took place at center court of Independence Mall at 3500 Oleander Drive. A native to Wilmington, Arnoux is a 2006 New Hanover High School graduate. His previous clubs include: Wake Forest University, English Premier League club Everton, United States Soccer Federation (USSF) club Vancouver Whitecaps, and MLS’s Real Salt Lake. Knights Notch 50th Win of the Season Fort Mill, SC – The Charlotte Knights withstood an hour and a half lightning and rain delay at Knights Stadium to win the final game of the first half of the season 6-4 over the Norfolk Tides. Fort Mill, SC – Zach Britton pitched eight effective innings, L.J. Hoes had three hits, and the Norfolk Tides beat the Charlotte Knights 10-6 on Saturday in the middle game of the three-game series from Knights Stadium.   Charlotte (49-42) got into a hole early after allowing nine runs in the first inning to Norfolk. Bill Hall and Nate McLouth each homered in the first for the Tides, who won for the second-straight day over Charlotte. Charlotte, NC – The Charleston Battery lost a third straight game with a 1-0 loss to the Charlotte Eagles Saturday night at Charlotte Christian Stadium in front of 693. Eagles forward Darryl Roberts scored the lone goal in the 36th minute to lift Charlotte (6-8-2) to victory as the Battery (10-6-0) slipped down into third position in the USL PRO standings. The first chance of the game fell to the Battery in only the second minute. Charlotte failed to clear a long ball and Charleston midfielder Nicki Paterson was the first to react to the loose ball. Southport, NC – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Friday, June 29th for the Fort Johnston – Southport Museum & Visitor Center in the Garrison House at Fort Johnston. The Museum/Center features displays on the life, culture and industry in Southport. It is part of the City of Southport Department of Tourism & Economic Development (TED) in cooperation with the Southport Historical Society. The Southport Museum & Visitor Center opened over the holiday weekend and within 4 hours had greeted 300 people according to Cindy Brochure, Director, City of Southport TED.

MANTEO - A Civil War photography presentation will be held on Saturday, July 14, in the Meeting Room at Roanoke Island Festival Park from 2-3 p.m. Jointly hosted with Outer Banks History Center, it will feature Civil War historian, Dennis Schurr. The event is free and open to the public. The Civil War is the first photo-documented American war, but there were also many artists who created imagery that continues to inform our view of the War Between the States.  Schurr will pull from his personal collection of hundreds of glass plate negatives to show scenes from the Civil War throughout the nation, many of which are hand-painted images derived from photographs of the time. NEW BERN – On Thursday, July 19, Tryon Palace hosts LeRae Umfleet as she presents her lecture “Differing Views, NC Women on the Homefront 1860 – 1865.” The lecture is at 7:00 p.m. in the North Carolina History Center’s Cullman Performance Hall, 529 S. Front Street in New Bern. Admission is free. Learn about the various experiences of North Carolina women during the Civil War by hearing the stories of coastal women in comparison to the experiences of their piedmont and mountain counterparts. The experiences of African American women such as Elizabeth Keckly and Mary Jane and Sarah Connor of New Bern will be highlighted. WILMINGTON, N.C. – On a humid evening in southeastern North Carolina, the Wilmington Sharks (3-3 second half, 19-14 overall) outscored the Morehead City Marlins (2-5 second half, 12-22 overall) by five runs in a 6-1 victory on Saturday night at Buck Hardee Field. Wilmington scored one run in the first inning on an RBI-groundout from Lloyd Enzor. Then the Sharks tacked on two more runs in the second inning on two unearned runs to take a 3-0 lead.
