News From The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation – David Allred

News From The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation – David Allred

Spotlight on David Allred People who are successful in life are those who constantly seek knowledge and embrace challenges, David Allred recognized that our internship was his opportunity to do just that. He admits that he was attracted to our hospital because he was “naïve” about working with sea turtles and he had no idea what might be involved in their rehab. He did know that they were “really cool creatures,” so when his adviser at Appalachian State presented our program as an option, he jumped on it. David may not have had much interaction with sea turtles, but he’s seen a lot of other critters as part of his job at a vet clinic. Starting out as a kennel […]

Wilmington Seahawks Unveil Non-Conference Hoops Schedule

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Matchups with four NCAA Tournament teams and a home invitational event during the Thanksgiving holiday highlight the 2012-13 non-conference men’s basketball schedule for third-year Head Coach Buzz Peterson and his UNCW Seahawks. The Seahawks, who went 10-21 overall and 4-7 against non-league opponents one year ago, entertain North Carolina Wesleyan in an exhibition game on Nov. 3 before kicking off the regular season eight days later against UNC Asheville at Trask Coliseum. The opening date with the two-time Big South Conference champion Bulldogs and veteran coach Eddie Biedenbach launches a schedule that has a distinct regional flavor for Peterson’s retooled club. “We’re very pleased with the non-conference schedule,” said Peterson, who stands 23-39 in two seasons […]

Wilmington Sharks Power Surge, Win Streak Both Continue

Wilmington Sharks Power Surge, Win Streak Both Continue

Sharks Use Five Extra Base Hits To Defeat Marlins, 5-2 Wilmington, N.C. – To understand the historical significance of Sunday night’s win, one must look beyond the simple record of the Wilmington Sharks (7-3, 23-14) after their seemingly pedestrian 5-2 decision over the Morehead City Marlins (3-10, 13-27).   The win marked the fifth in a row for Wilmington, the club’s longest streak of victory since an eight game stretch in 2005. It was also the sixth straight home win, matching the longest streak at Buck Hardee Field since records became available in 2001. The only other time the Sharks won six straight at home in a single year was the final six games of the 2007 season.   Following […]

Trio of Homers Powers Wilmington Sharks to Fourth Straight Win

Trio of Homers Powers Wilmington Sharks to Fourth Straight Win

Wilmington, NC – After the first two hits by Wilmington Sharks (6-3, 22-14) batters both left the park on Saturday night, the home team could have called it a night. Instead, they stuck around to knock another one to add to what would end as a 5-2 victory over the Forest City Owls (4-8, 24-15). All five Sharks runs came via the long ball, as the team clubbed three total dingers for their most in a home game this season. It was also the most allowed in a single tilt by Owls pitching. Lloyd Enzor sent the first pitch he saw in the first inning into the netting above the left field wall to start the scoring, then after Connor […]

Fayetteville got on the board in the first inning, as Mike Tauchman (Bradley) drove home Zach Gawrych (Tampa) with an infield single. Tauchman finished the ball game going 3-5 at the plate with two RBIs. The Dogs extended their lead in the third, as Tauchman ripped an RBI-triple to right center field, plating Tyler Ding (Tampa) from first base. After […]

Fayetteville SwampDogs’ David Tufo an All-Star

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Fayetteville SwampDogs are pleased to congratulate coach David Tufo on being named the Associate Head Coach of the CPL’s American All-Star team. Tufo took over for Darrell Handelsman during the first half of the season while Handelsman recovered from burns suffered in a late-May concession stand explosion. Tufo assumed the role of head coach without hesitation, filling in admirably for the absent Handelsman. Fayetteville narrowly missed winning the first-half title in the East division, and finished with an 18-10 record. The young coach from Menlo College is in his second year with the team. The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th […]
