A thorough review by the North Carolina Department of Insurance last year led the agency to adjust the fire department district rating beginning Feb. 1. Haws Run Fire Department rating has been changed to a class 5 from a 9s. According to the Insurance Services Office rating scale, the lower the class rating the better the citizens’ insurance rates will reflect.
Home owners can expect decreases in insurance premiums as a result of the fire protection district rating improvement. Department officials estimate nearly 3,600 residents within five road miles of the fire station will be affected and encourage the residents to contact their insurance companies to ensure they are aware of the change and receiving the benefits of an improved rating. They also recommend residents with renters insurance to contact their insurance provider to see if changes are available.
Haws Run Volunteer Fire Department Chief David Hill said, “It is our goal to improve the quality of service in our fire district. This report confirms what our department knew all along, that have an exceptional team of volunteer firefighters dedicated to the mission.”
