NC Aquarium camps enhance January school break
PINE KNOLL SHORES, NC Jan. 9, 2015 – Camps at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores combine fun and learning into wintertime adventures for children in grades 2-6 during the January school holidays. Two sessions are offered, geared to different age groups.
In Senses in the Sea Camp for grades 2-4 on Jan. 19, campers explore how animals such as otters, sharks, sea turtles, fish and other aquatic creatures use hearing, touch, sight, smell, taste and other means such as echolocation to find food and avoid predators. Behind-the-scenes action such as feeding a sea turtle, plus animal encounters and a nature hike keep the lessons lively.
Animal Enrichment Camp for grades 4-6 on Jan. 20 shows campers the science behind animal enrichment and the importance of this element of animal care. Participants help aquarists prepare items to pique the curiosity of the otters, octopus and birds, and enjoy games and other activities.
Camps run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Advance registration and payment of the $40 fee are required. Aquarium members pay $36. Register by phone, at the Aquarium or online. Space is limited so early registration is advised.
