Carolina RailHawks Sign Alex Martinez Prior to Roster Freeze Date


The NC State grad returns to the Triangle after spending time with MLS’ Sporting Kansas City
CARY, NC Oct. 10, 2014 – The Carolina RailHawks announced the signing of former High Point University and NC State graduate, Alex Martinez, for the remainder of the 2014 NASL Season.

The younger brother of current RailHawks midfielder Enzo Martinez becomes the 12th player on the current RailHawks roster who played youth and/or college soccer in North Carolina.

After two successful seasons playing for High Point University, where he managed to gather 12 goals and four assists, he was recruited by North Carolina State University in 2012. While at NC State, Martinez scored 13 goals and added 18 assists for the NC State Men’s Soccer program as a First Team All-ACC Honoree.

In January 2014, he was selected in the third round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft (57th overall pick) by Sporting Kansas City. During his time with Sporting KC, he saw action in 441 minutes over 10 matches prior to being released in June.

Up next, the Carolina RailHawks will travel to Canada to take on FC Edmonton this Sunday.
