Larose added to training camp roster, which now stands at 36 players
RALEIGH, NC Sept. 27, 2014 – Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team will reassign nine players from its training camp roster to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. Francis also announced that the team has added forward Chad LaRose to the training camp roster on a professional tryout.
Defensemen Trevor Carrick, Dennis Robertson and Keegan Lowe and goaltender Daniel Altshuller were assigned directly to the Checkers. Forwards Ben Holmstrom, Justin Shugg, Greg Nemisz and Jared Staal will be assigned to Charlotte pending waivers. Forward Kyle Hagel, who has an AHL contract with Charlotte, has also been released from the Hurricanes’ camp.
LaRose totaled 180 points (85g, 95a) and 286 penalty minutes in 508 career NHL games with Carolina between 2005-06 and 2012-13. He did not play professional hockey last season, but signed an AHL contract with Charlotte this summer.
The Hurricanes continue their 2014 exhibition schedule with a two-game road trip beginning in St. Louis on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET, Hurricanes Radio Network). Carolina kicks off the 2014-15 regular-season campaign on Oct. 10 against the New York Islanders.
