Select Fans At Five Elite College Football Stadiums Will Be Chosen To Receive Custom Game-Time Content On Their Mobile Phones
ATLANTA, GA August 26, 2014 – Atlanta-based, XYCAST, is revolutionizing the live sports and entertainment industry. Starting this month, select sports venues will broadcast customized video highlights, photos, stats, play-by-play analysis, interactive games and more, via an app on a mobile phone.
“This technology is the equivalent of an interactive personal jumbotron delivering a custom broadcast simultaneous to the live event,” says Bruce Cox, chief executive officer of XYCAST. “The XYCAST platform is valuable technology that teams and venue owners will use as a tool to enhance the fan experience before, during and after the game. Programming can be customized to the game or stadium, even targeting a specific segment of fans within the stadium.”
XYCAST delivers an interactive fan experience to a mobile phone independent of cellular data or Wi-Fi networks to better serve the fans. The small handheld XYCAST PDR™ (Personal Data Receiver) connects to mobile phones using Bluetooth technology, empowering fans to access real-time game updates, video highlights, and other event- specific content through an app downloaded to their phone.
“At the University of South Carolina we are constantly striving to provide one of the best gameday experiences in the country. We believe the XYCAST network has the potential to be a gamechanger,” said Ray Tanner, Athletics Director, University of South Carolina.
Jay Jacobs, Director of Athletics, Auburn University, stated, “We have made a commitment to our fans to explore new ways to provide information, interactive engagement, and entertainment on mobile devices in Auburn on gameday. We look forward to working with the XYCAST team this year in each of these key areas.”
During the 2014 football season, XYCAST will provide a select number of fans at five college football stadiums around the country with a PDR as part of a pilot program. These fans will have an exclusive opportunity to experience this technology first-hand. The XYCAST network can broadcast live game-related information to phones within a mile of the stadium to keep fans engaged, entertained, and informed. Broadcasts will include everything from video highlights and player stats to analysis from reporters and fan participatory contests.
Universities participating in the XYCAST pilot program include:
- Auburn University
- Florida State University
- Naval Academy
- University of Michigan
- University of South Carolina
