East Carolina Pirates Host Longwood in Friday Exhibition

Pirates will use the match as a tune-up for its season-opener August 22 against South Carolina

GREENVILLE, NC August 14, 2014 – In preparation for its first season as a member of the American Athletic Conference, the East Carolina women’s soccer team will host Longwood in an exhibition match on Friday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m., at the Johnson Soccer Stadium. Admission will be free to the general public.

The Pirates will officially begin its regular season next Friday, Aug. 22, when they host South Carolina at 7 p.m. For tickets to all of ECU’s home women’s soccer games, click here, or contact the Athletic Ticket Office at (252) 737-4500. Individual tickets can be purchased in person on the day of the game at the box office starting 90 minutes prior to each contest.



The Pirates return 23 players from last year’s squad that posted a 9-9-3 overall record and reached the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament in its final year as a member of the league. East Carolina graduated six and welcomes 11 total newcomers.



Sophomore backer Caitlin Hite and junior striker Kendall Frey and return to the pitch after earning All-Conference USA honors in 2013. Hite became the first freshman in program history to receive first team recognition, while Frey garnered a third-team nod.



ECU added 10 freshmen and one transfer for the 2014 campaign, with several of the new arrivals expected to contribute right away. Senior Brianna Spitler arrives after transferring from the University of New Hampshire to play alongside younger sister and sophomore Lana. Deborah DeGraff, Charlotte Pearsall, Courtney Taybron, Brittany Fary, Danielle Eule, Rachel Renfrow, Taylor Gaunt, Amanda Duke and Allison Kemp comprise the freshman class.



The Lancers, picked to finish fourth in the Big South Conference, returns their leading goal-scorer from one year ago in sophomore Amanda Spencer. Her nine tallies and 21 points were tops for Longwood in 2013, while classmate Gina D’Orazio is also back after leading the Lancers in assists with six and ranking third in points with 12.
