CHARLESTON, SC July 24, 2014 – The College of Charleston women’s basketball program has added Shiclasia “Clay” Brown to its 2014-15 signing class, as announced by head coach Candice M. Jackson on Tuesday.
“We are so happy that Clay chose to come to The College,” said Jackson. “She has flair and will be fun to watch for Cougar fans. As a point guard, we will look to her as a floor general and leader of this team. She has emerged as a player to watch out for already in the short time that she’s been here.”
Prior to committing her future to The College, Brown enjoyed a stellar prep career at Nazareth Regional High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., where as team captain she averaged over four assists per game for a squad that went 21-7 her senior year under head coach Ron Kelley. Brown plied her AAU game for Team Exodus under head coach Lauren Best.
A native of Corona, N.Y., – a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens – Brown is the daughter of Shiron Cummings and Clarence Brown.
“For me, The College represents a good opportunity to grow as a basketball player, a student and a leader,” said Brown. “The city reminds me of home and the business program here fits in with my accounting interests. I also feel really comfortable with the coaching staff and I know they will be there for me when I need them – that’s important to me.”
