MYRTLE BEACH, SC January 9, 2014 – If you are still trying to decide where to go for your next vacation, why not consider a trip to South Carolina? The Palmetto State is a perfect destination, offering breathtaking landscapes, historic towns, incredible dining and great sports. Best of all, the people are friendly and welcoming – in fact, South Carolina is one of the best family destinations in America.
Of course, when people think of South Carolina, beaches are the first thing that comes to mind. South Carolina has some of the best beaches in North America – and perhaps the world. Myrtle Beach is perhaps the best known, but there are many others. For example, Surfside Beach is a perfect place to take a family. It’s only about 4 miles from Myrtle Beach, and has lots of family-friendly activities – boating, swimming and fishing are just a few. There are also several recreation parks in the area, as well as a 16-acre waterpark that the kids will love. On the other hand, if you are a nature lover, take a trip to Hunting Island Beach – the quiet lagoon is home to abundant wildlife, and there are also a number of excellent nature trails. You may not have heard of Hunting Island, but the chances are that you have seen it – the lagoon served as a backdrop for a number of scenes in Forrest Gump.
While you’re in South Carolina, make sure to sample the southern cooking. Enjoy some of the wonderful barbecue – South Carolina claims to be the birthplace of barbecue in the southern United States, and when you taste the succulent meat, you’ll be hard-pressed to disagree. Also try the world-famous she-crab soup – this is a signature dish of Charleston, and it won’t disappoint. You will also find elegant restaurants and unforgettable oceanfront establishments that will delight your palate – and make you sorry when it’s time to go home.
Getting to South Carolina is relatively easy – just fly into Charleston Airport. Many major airlines fly into here, including Delta, US Airways, American and JetBlue. Pick up a rental car at the airport, head off to your hotel and your vacation is on a roll. Of course, you need to take the same precautions traveling to South Carolina that you would anywhere in the United States.
Finally, if you love golf, then South Carolina is probably the best golf destination in North America. The state is home to hundreds of championship golf courses, ranging from courses nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains through to those that lie alongside South Carolina’s many lakes and waterways. Travel to Hilton Head and try out the Harbor Town Golf Links– the PGA tour stops here each year– or try the monstrous Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, which is perhaps one of the most difficult courses in the United States.
