GREENVILLE, NC December 1, 2013 – Cedrick Williams blocked Prince Williams’ game-tying dunk attempt at the end of regulation to preserve a 70-68 win for UNC Wilmington over East Carolina Sunday night.

Paris Roberts-Campbell scored 15 points to lead four players in double-figures for the Pirates.

Caleb White scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half, Akeem Richmond added 13 and Prince Williams chipped in 10, while Brandan Stith pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and blocked two shots. Antonio Robinson contributed six points, five rebounds and three steals off the bench for the Pirates.

UNC Wilmington jumped out to an early 11-5 lead over the first four and a half minutes into the first media timeout. The Seahawks maintained their lead for the duration of the first half, until White tied the game for the first time at 31-31 on a three-pointer with just five seconds remaining in the period.

After trailing 39-35 at the first media timeout of the second half, ECU used an 8-2 run over the course of the subsequent two minutes to take its first lead of the game at 43-41 on a three-pointer by White with 13:19 remaining.

The second half turned into a tightly contested affair as both sides exchanged baskets for much of the final 13 minutes, which resulted in 10 lead changes.

UNCW pulled ahead for temporarily, but a Richmond three with 4:50 left on the clock put ECU back in the lead at 60-58. After the Seahawks scored three unanswered points to grab a one-point lead, a Robinson layup with 2:45 puts East Carolina back in the lead, 62-61.

After another set of lead changes, a pair of missed free throws by UNCW with 23 seconds remaining and gave way for Robinson to drop in a floater with 7.4 seconds left and pull the Pirates within one of the Seahawks at 69-68.

UNCW extended its lead back two as Addison Spruill converted one of two free throws for the final margin of victory.

Despite shooting over 48 percent in the second half, ECU finished the night 24-of-61 (.393) from the field, 8-of-25 (.320) from beyond the arc and 12-of-15 (.800) from the free throw line. UNCW shot a scorching 53.6 percent in the second half to finish the night 28-of-58 (.483) overall and 4-of-14 (.286) from three-point land.

ECU was outscored, 48-32, in the paint and 19-7 on second chance opportunities, but had a 14-9 advantage over UNCW in points off turnovers.

Williams sparked the Seahawks with a game-high 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while pulling down nine boards and blocking three shots.

East Carolina will play the second game of its five-game home stand Tuesday, Dec. 3, when it welcomes Fayetteville State. Opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
