Josh McRoberts scored a team-high 15 points, including three 3-pointers and Ramon Sessions added 14 points off the bench as the Cats opened the 2013-14 season with a 96-83 loss on October 30 in Houston.
A coast-to-coast drive by Michael Kidd-Gilchrist after a key block by Al Jefferson pulled the Cats to within 69-66 with 9:50 left in the fourth quarter. However, the Cats missed their next seven shots and went 2-for-5 from the charity stripe as Houston rattled off an 11-2 run to take an 80-68 lead and put the game away.

The Cats defense showed up early in this one and held Houston to 30.0 percent shooting (6-for-20), forced five turnovers and blocked two shots in first quarter. The Rockets would finish with a 47.4 percent to 36.7 percent advantage from the field, tie the Cats in blocks (6) and turn it over 19 times to the Cats eight. But Charlotte had trouble converting on the break, finishing with nine points off the 19 Rockets miscues… Houston held the advantage on the boards, 54 rebounds to the Cats 37. Dwight Howard dominated the glass with 26 boards, while Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Al Jefferson led Charlotte with eight rebounds apiece… Houston’s bench outscored Charlotte, 39-25. Francisco Garcia led the Rockets reserves with 19 points, including five treys. Ramon Sessions paced the Cats reserves with 14 points.
BOBCATS PLAYER OF THE GAME
Josh McRoberts did his best to spark the Cats comeback in the third quarter, finishing with eight points and two 3-pointers in the frame. He finished with a team-high 15 points to go with four rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.
ROCKETS PLAYER OF THE GAME
Dwight Howard brought down 26 rebounds and scored 17 points in his Houston debut. He added two blocks and two assists in 35 minutes.
Al Jefferson returned to the Cats lineup after missing the last six preseason games with a sprained ankle. He finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in 31 minutes… The Cats had five players finish in double-digits led by Josh McRoberts with 15 points and followed by Ramon Sessions (14), Jefferson (13), Kemba Walker (12) and Gerald Henderson (11)… McRoberts finished 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. He connected on just four 3-pointers all of last season… The Cats were efficient on the fast break, going 6-for-6 on their way to 15 fast break points to the Rockets seven.
