CHARLESTON, SC October 26, 2013 – The College of Charleston men’s golf team will host The Invitational at the Ocean Course this Sunday Oct. 27 through Tuesday Oct. 29 on Kiawah Island.
The Ocean Course, home of the 1991 Ryder Cup and 2012 PGA Championship, will be set up at par 72 and 7,080 yards for the tournament. The Invitational will consist of three rounds with tee times starting at 7:50 a.m. (ET) on Sunday and Monday and an 8 a.m. (ET) shotgun on Tuesday.
CofC will have high hopes coming into the tournament as the team has already scored a runner-up finish this year at the Navy Fall Classic in early September. The College’s lineup for the competition will feature senior Alex Ellis (Austin, Texas), freshman William Rainey (Charlotte, N.C.), sophomores John Jonas (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Josh Lorenzetti (Columbia, S.C.), and junior Zach Munroe (Charlotte, N.C.). Freshman Matthew Mahle (Lexington, Ky.) will be competing as an individual.
“We can’t wait to get out to the Ocean Course,” CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. “I’m very excited about our lineup and I think we have a chance to play well. We’re going to need to put three good rounds together but we’re excited to be playing on our home turf and the site of a past Ryder Cup and PGA Championship.”
This is the fourth year that the Cougars have hosted the Invitational. Florida, currently ranked No. 40 in the country, has won the tournament the last two years.
The 2013 field is a very strong one, comprised of Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, No. 40 Florida, Francis Marion, No. 5 Georgia, No. 62 Georgia Southern, No. 39 Kentucky, No. 92 Michigan, Michigan State, No. 82 Notre Dame, Rice, South Alabama, No. 17 South Florida and Western Carolina.
