WILMINGTON, NC – This fall Cape Fear Museum has Halloween down to a science, providing children and adults with an educational, fun and safe way to celebrate Halloween. Science Spooktacular offers interactive activities and games for “mad scientists” of all ages on Saturday, October 19 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Uncover the scientific principles behind “spooky” and mysterious events through hands-on activities stations throughout the Museum, such as:
Wearing your lab coat and safety goggles (provided), venture into the Mad Lab where you’ll meet the mad scientist and create rings of fog and mini lava lamps. Make an exploding rocket and crunch on a cricket.
Create wind with the National Weather Service and use it to blow things around. Explore bodily functions such as the bones in your hands and the mucus in your nose. Dissect a cow’s eye and see how the human eye works.
Join UNC Wilmington’s Center for Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (CESTEM) in the Little Shop of Physics to experiment with a magic pendulum, space phones and much more! Go Arithmetic or Treating with Cape Fear Community College Math Club.
Make Oobleck dance and create a pet monster. Create frozen shadows, examine artifacts from our creepy collections or settle in with a not-so-spooky story with New Hanover County Public Library.
Remember, it’s not spooky, it’s science! Admission is $3.00 for Museum members; $6.00 for non-members. Anyone who buys or renews a Museum membership that evening gets in free. Science Spooktacular is sponsored by Time Warner Cable’s Connect A Million Minds initiative. For more information about science activities in your town, visit www.connectamillionminds.com.
