Norenius posts second victory over ranked opponent in as many days
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA September 21, 2013 – Senior Sean Weber and junior Robbie Mudge of the NC State men’s tennis team captured the doubles title in the Black Draw on Saturday, as the Pack combined for five victories on day two of the UVa Ranked + 1 Invitational.
In the finals for the second consecutive tournament to open the fall slate, Weber and Mudge were able to claim the Black Draw title by edging the Wake Forest duo of Adam Lee and Pedro Dumont, 8-7. The Pack pair advanced to the finals with an impressive 8-4 upset victory in the semifinals over UVa’s second-seeded tandem of Justin Shane and Luca Corinteli.
In singles, Mudge and Horton fell in their respective semifinal matches in the Blue Draw. Mudge was outlasted by 34th-ranked Cameron Silverman of Elon, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1, while Horton fell to UVa’s No. 46 Ryan Shane, 6-1, 6-1.
Norenius and Weber each captured wins in their respective draws, highlighted by Norenius securing a 6-3, 6-1 win over Binghamton’s No. 122 Sidharta Hazarika. The win marked his second victory over a ranked opponent in as many days.
Play will conclude with the final round of singles Sunday, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
