Hunter Mahan’s Hole-in-One at the 2013 BMW Championship Earns him a BMW i3 and a $100,000 Four-Year Scholarship for a College-Bound Evans Scholar
For the Third Time, BMW of North America will Donate a Full Four-Year Scholarship to the Evans Scholars Foundation.
Lake Forest, IL September 14, 2013 – On the third day of play at the 2013 BMW Championship, Hunter Mahan scored a hole-in-one on Conway Farms Golf Club’s 17th hole, ensuring that BMW of North America will donate a $100,000 four-year scholarship to the Evans Scholars Foundation and a BMW i3 electric vehicle. All proceeds from the BMW Championship also benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation, which provides scholarships to deserving young caddies. Since 2007, the BMW Championship has raised more than $14 million for the charity.
“That’s awesome of BMW to do that, to have [the] Evans Scholarship. I remember playing [in] the Western Junior and hearing about it, and it’s a great thing that they do,” said Hunter Mahan. “Caddies are a big part of golf, and it’s awesome that a kid is going to have a great education, so that’s amazing.”
Yesenia Juarez, a junior Evans Scholar at Northwestern University, accepted the donation on behalf of the Evans Scholars Foundation. This winter BMW and the Western Golf Association (WGA), sponsor of the Evans Scholars Foundation, will jointly select and award the scholarship in Hunter Mahan’s name to a high school senior who will get the opportunity to attend college next fall.
Mahan’s shot came during today’s play as he stepped up to the par three 17th hole. Using a 5 iron, Mahan holed his tee shot from 210-yards, concurrently fulfilling the dreams of one lucky college-bound Evans Scholar.

Saturday’s shot was the second hole-in-one for Mahan on the PGA TOUR. He previously had a hole-in-one at the 2006 Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Mahan, 32, is a California native and former All-American at Oklahoma State. A five-time PGA TOUR winner and a veteran of two Ryder Cup teams and four President Cup teams, he turned pro in 2003 and joined the PGA TOUR in 2004. He is a winner of the 1998 Western Junior Championship, which like the BMW Championship is also conducted by the Western Golf Association, and two World Golf Championship events, the 2010 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the 2012 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.
This year’s tournament marked the second time BMW also featured two hole-in-one vehicles, awarding the first player to achieve a hole-in-one on the 11th hole a new BMW M6 Gran Coupe and the first to do the same on the 17th hole the all-new BMW i3. The BMW i3 is a purpose-built electric vehicle made primarily of carbon fiber from the ground up. At last year’s BMW Championship, Steve Stricker scored a hole-in-one as he stepped up to the 199-yard, par three sixth hole at Crooked Stick Golf Club, simultaneously fulfilling the dreams of Evans Scholar Mark Abtahi.
In 2010 Sean O’Hair aced the 211-yard, par three second hole on Cog Hill Golf & Country Club’s Dubsdread course, earning a full college scholarship for Evans Scholar Helena Schwemmer.
