CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston volleyball team will be sponsoring a fundraising drive for the local Ronald McDonald House charity next weekend in the Holiday Inn CofC Classic.
The Ronald McDonald House is a 27-bedroom home on Calhoun St. where families stay while their children undergo extensive medical treatment. Here, parents and children lead a life as normal as possible during their traumatic times without the financial burden of costly hotel and travel expenses.
Student-athletes on the volleyball squad are reaching out to friends, family and team supporters with a goal of $1,350, enough money to pay for filling all 27 rooms of the house for a single night. Fans can donate to the cause during the CofC-SMU volleyball match on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
Celebrating its 30th year of operation, the Ronald McDonald house has had many local celebrities don the red shoes this year in a public show of support and solidarity for the local charity. In that light, CofC head coach Jason Kepner will be wearing the red shoes on the sideline during the Cougars’ match against SMU.
