Before becoming a rapper, Drake was an actor, playing the character of Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation. In 2006, while still working on the show, Drake released his first mixtape, Room For Improvement. The next year, Drake produced a second mixtape, Comeback Season, featuring his first single “Replacement Girl.” He also began making guest appearances on songs by other artists, such as Trey Songz. After hearing some of his work, Lil Wayne invited Drake on tour, and later to sign on to his record label, Young Money.
Drake’s popularity began to soar in 2009 when he released his third mixtape, So Far Gone. The mixtape received over 2,000 downloads in its first two hours of release and its hit single, “Best I Ever Had,” made it to the radio. Not long after, Drake’s debut album, Thank Me Later was released, entering the charts at #1. Several of the album’s songs, “Over,” “Find Your Love,” “Miss Me,” and “Fancy” have been very successful as well. The first headlining Drake tour took place in 2010. In addition to Lil Wayne and Trey Songz, Drake has collaborated with Kanye West and Jay-Z. Drake released his second album, Take Care, in 2011, and his third, Nothing Was the Same, in 2013.
