Wilmington, NC August 27, 2013 — Cape Fear Museum is looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to inspire visitors to explore the history and science of the Lower Cape Fear region. Upcoming volunteer training and opportunities include:
People of the Past Docents and Training
Date/Time: Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Be a part of Cape Fear Museum’s long-running “People of the Past” school program. This training session will orient new and returning docents to inquiry-based learning and basic knowledge of the Lower Cape Fear region, as well as two 15-minute sections of this iconic fourth grade program.
Field Trip Docents
Enjoy science and how things work? The Museum offers a number of hands-on, curriculum-linked programs to elementary and middle school grades. Volunteers are needed to serve as docents (program facilitators) for science-related programs, including Simple Machines, Forces and Motion and Electricity and Magnetism field trips.
Volunteers are needed to facilitate science and history carts, stationed throughout the Museum, where general visitors explore artifacts, conduct experiments, and play fun games. Times, activities and locations vary.
Dates Needed: Wednesday and Thursday afternoons 1- 4 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 1 – 4 p.m.
Volunteers are needed for the Museum Store stocked with an assortment of adult and children’s history books, educational toys, N.C. pottery, jewelry and more.

Cape Fear Museum of History and Science, a department of New Hanover County, is open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Saturday, and 1:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday; Memorial Day through Labor Day. General admission is $7 for adults; $6 for students, senior citizens and military with valid ID; $4 for children 6-17; and free for children 5 and under. Museum members are admitted free.
