SURF CITY, NC August 27, 2013 – Plenty is happening in the sports scene for fall at Surf City Parks & Recreation. First of all, the Community Center has a new tennis pro – Mark Lane, coach at East Duplin High School. He will initiate one hour group sessions for youths in two different age groups – ages 6-11 at 8:30 am and ages 12-17 at 9:30 am on Saturdays beginning September 14th and ending October 19th.
Adults (18+) will also have their own program – Cardio Tennis at 11 am on Saturdays. The cost is only $50 for all these six week programs and walk-ins are welcome on a space-available basis for $12 per session. Registration is available through www.townofsurfcity.com Lane is also available to do private lessons upon request and his contact information is available through the Community Center office.
Open Adult Sports are also restarting the first week of September and you must be at least 16 to participate. Indoor Soccer will be on Tuesday nights, Adult Basketball on Thursdays and Adult Volleyball on Fridays – all starting at 6 pm. All but volleyball finish at 8:30 pm, volleyball will conclude at 8 o’clock.
Open Play programs are free to Community Center members and town employees. All others pay a yearly fee of $25 or single night guest fee of $5.
Sign-ups are also continuing for 7v7 Adult Soccer which moves to Sundays, starting September 8. The cost is only $40 and includes a uniform shirt. Teams may also register for only $350. Registration also continues for Youth Soccer and Middle School Volleyball, both starting up the week after Labor Day. Again, registration is available through www.townofsurfcity.com.
