Syracuse, NY August 23, 2013 – Danny Rosenbaum allowed just one run on six hits over six innings as the Syracuse Chiefs beat the Charlotte Knights 8-1 on Friday in game two of their four-game series from NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, NY. The win was the second in as many days for Syracuse.
Rosenbaum (7-10, 3.78) struck out four Knights on the evening as the Chiefs earned their third win of the year against Charlotte in six games. Three Syracuse relievers held the Knights scoreless over the final three frames.
The Knights scored first in the game and did so in the top of the second inning against Rosenbaum. Charlotte took a 1-0 lead on a Miguel Gonzalez RBI single. It was Charlotte’s only run of the game and it was the first of three hits for Gonzalez on the night.
The Chiefs tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on a Jeff Kobernus RBI double. With the game tied 1-1, the Chiefs took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning and never looked back. Zach Walters hit a two-run triple, while Kris Watts came through with an RBI double to make it a 4-1 lead.
Syracuse added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull away from the Knights in game two.
Corey Brown had three hits, while Walters led the way with three RBIs.
For the Knights, Brent Morel added his 27th double of the season. Morel’s double was one of Charlotte’s seven hits in the contest.
RHP Stephen McCray (0-2, 4.50) was the losing pitcher after allowing three runs in just one inning of work. McCray came on in relief of starter Zach Stewart, who gave up just one run on five hits over five frames. Stewart made his 26th start of the season – tying his career high in a season, which was set in 2010.
The two teams will continue their series on Saturday night from Syracuse. RHP Erik Johnson (3-1, 1.59) gets the nod for the Knights in game three. The Chiefs will hand the ball to RHP Yunesky Maya (8-7, 3.90). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
