Jacksonville, NC August 19, 2013 – Onslow County Animal Services is offering special dog adoption discounts through Saturday, August 31, 2013 for black, brown, and large dogs. The special adoption fee for black, brown and large dogs is $55.00.
Black, Brown, and big dogs are just as friendly and just as furry, but black, brown and big dogs sitting in animal shelters are often overlooked by prospective pet owners, according to animal rescue professionals who have dubbed the problem the “black, brown dog syndrome.” “What we’ve learned is that large black or brown dogs tend to be the last ones to get adopted from shelters,” said Alan C. Davis, Director of Onslow County Services. “Many times, the black /brown dogs with no markings appear to be a little bit plain, even though they’re bursting with personality, so we at Animal Services have to accentuate that. People are looking for a face to fall in love with and if that dog doesn’t stand out in a crowd, they just get overlooked. It is our goal to find good, loving homes for as many black, brown and large dogs as possible. Therefore, we are offering the public the opportunity to make life-long friends for the incredible reduced fee of $55.00.”
The adoption fee for dogs includes a health exam, vaccinations, and spaying or neutering. Adopters can usually take their new pet home the same day. Forms of payment include cash, and credit card. Onslow County Animal Services is located at 244 Georgetown Road in Jacksonville. The shelter is open to the public for pet adoptions from 12 noon to 6:30 pm Monday through Thursday; Fridays 12 noon to 3:00 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am to 12 noon and 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
