CHARLESTON, SC August 8, 2013 – College of Charleston incoming freshman women’s golfer Laura Fuenfstueck (pronounced FUUNF-shh-took) has moved up to No. 33 in the Women’s Amateur World Golf Rankings.
A native of Frankfurt, Germany, Fuenfstueck is a member of the German National Women’s Team and coming off a 44th-place finish at the International European Ladies’ Amateur Championship – one of the elite tournaments in the world rankings – on July 24-27 at the Aura Golf Club in Finland.
However, her biggest victory this year was winning the French International Ladies Junior Match Play Championship – a major international title – in April at Golf de Saint-Cloud in Garches, France. Fuenfstueck carded rounds of 65 and 71 in qualifying, before winning all of her matches for the championship.
Fuenfstueck also made it to the Round of 16 at the British Open Amateur Championship held in June as well as advanced to the quarterfinals of the German Match Play Championship held in May, falling short of eventual winner, Karolin Lampert, on the 19th hole of their match.
Fuenfstueck will make her collegiate debut as CofC opens the fall season with the 11th Annual Cougar Classic on Sept. 8-10 at Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C.
