Fin-Filled Fridays feature sharks at NC Aquarium
Pine Knoll Shores, NC June 10, 2013 – The first Fin-Filled Friday of the summer June 14 brings toothy times to the North Carolina Aquarium at Knoll Shores. Programs crafts, exhibits and other activities focus on the truth about sharks, the ocean’s top predators.
Have fun while learning more about how these mysterious and often misunderstood creatures serve an important role in the ocean ecosystem, and the threats they face.
- Watch how sharks really eat in feeding demonstrations.
- Get the inside story on shark anatomy in a Creature Feature.
- Enjoy a close encounter with a bamboo shark.
- Watch divers swim with the sharks in the Living Shipwreck.
- Sharpen your wits and win prizes in a shark quiz game.
For great photos, pose by the life-size inflatable replica of a great white shark or the re-created jaws of a giant, now-extinct megalodon. Watch for your chance to high-five with shark mascot Friendly Finley. In the classroom, size yourself up compared to various shark species and enjoy shark-themed crafts and hands-on activities.
Any time during your visit, find the four species of sharks in the Aquarium’s exhibits. The fierce-looking sand tiger sharks, the fast-moving sandbar sharks and the curiously named nurse sharks all inhabit the Living Shipwreck. In the Queen Anne’s Revenge, a bonnethead shark is easy to spot because of the distinctive shape of its head.
Fin-Filled Fridays run every week through Aug. 9, and activities are free with admission or membership
