Charlotte, NC March 27, 2013 – The Carolina Panthers have re-signed unrestricted free agent defensive tackle Dwan Edwards, the team announced Wednesday.
Signed one week prior to the Panthers season opener in 2012, Edwards started all 14 games he played, missing two with a wrist injury. Edwards’ six sacks on the season were a career high, ranked third in the NFL among defensive tackles and were tied for the second-most by a defensive tackle in Panthers history.
Edwards, 6-3 and 300 pounds, joined the Panthers after being released by the Buffalo Bills at the end of training camp. A veteran of nine NFL seasons, Edwards played for the Bills (2009-11) and Baltimore Ravens (2004-09) prior to joining the Panthers.
A second-round draft choice (51st overall) of the Ravens in 2004 out of Oregon State, Edwards has played in 97 career games with 61 starts, recording 327 tackles, 11.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles, two interceptions and nine passes defensed.
