Cougars Women’s Golf to Host Briar’s Creek Invitational

CHARLESTON, SC March 21, 2013 - The College of Charleston women’s golf team will host the first Briar’s Creek Invitational tournament at the Briar’s Creek Golf Club on Johns Island, S.C., March 25-26.

 

The tournament will get underway with 18 teams in a shotgun start at 9:15 a.m. on Monday. The teams will play two rounds of 18 holes on Monday and follow up with an 18 hole final round, with a shotgun start Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.

The golf course at Briar’s Creek will be set up as a par-72 and will measure 6,120 yards for the 18 hole layout.

 

Live scoring for the tournament will be available each day via golfstat.com and a full recap and results will be posted at CofCSports.com

 

Teams entered in the field include: Augusta State, Campbell, Central Florida, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Chattanooga, East Carolina, Furman, Georgetown, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Maryland, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Penn State, South Florida and Wisconsin.

 

CofC head coach Jamie Futrell said he is looking for his team to bounce back after an 11th place finish at the Mountain View Collegiate in Arizona last weekend.

 

“We are very excited to host this prestigious event at the private Briar’s Creek Golf Club,” he said. “I’m looking for us to get back to form when we finished second place at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic.”
