Cougars Enter Szambecki Team Race As Defending Champions
CHARLESTON, SC March 21, 2013 – The College of Charleston sailing team returns to action this weekend at the Szambecki Team Race hosted by Old Dominion on March 23-24 in Norfolk, Va.
In the latest college rankings, presented by Sperry Top-Sider, the Cougars are ranked fifth nationally in coed competition and seventh in women’s.
CofC enters this weekend’s regatta as the defending Szambecki Team Race champions. Last year, the team advanced to the final round and put together a strong 6-1 record amongst the eight-team field.
The Cougars’ rotation will include an experienced group headlined by senior skipper and 2012 London Olympian Juan Maegli (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and freshman crew Seppie McAdams (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.); senior All-American skipper Mac Mace (Newport Beach, Calif.) and senior crew Cory Decollibus (Duxbury, Mass.); and senior All-American skipper Ben Spector (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and sophomore crew Ali Blumenthal (Bellport, N.Y.) and senior crew Brooks Clark (Newport Beach, Calif.).
