Charleston Friends of the Library to Hold Events Surrounding National Library Week
Charleston, SC March 21, 2013- During the month of April, the Friends of the Library will be holding a Membership Drive at all 16 branches. The branches will be competing to see who can acquire the most memberships, April 1-30. The winning group will receive a special reward for each of their employees and bragging rights of winning the competition in 2013. Membership forms will be available in each branch. You can join by check, cash, or credit card (online) right at your local branch. Support your local library!
To kick-off National Library Week (April 14-20), the Friends will be hosting Party 4 a Purpose at Mad River (32 N. Market Street, 29401) on Thursday, April 11 from 6-9 p.m. A $5 donation at the door covers one domestic beer, mixed drink, glass of wine, or the signature cocktail for the night, ‘Tequila Mockingbird’. Silent auction items will include Spoleto tickets, gift certificates, and rare books. 100% of the proceeds from the door and silent auction benefit the programs of the Charleston County Library.
The Charleston Friends of the Library support additional library resources such as the Summer Reading Program, Met Opera Series, Educational Community Programming, and Author Talks to include more than 7,000 programs annually. They fundraise through book sales at branches and online at www.shopcharlestonlibraryfriends.org, memberships, and donations. The Friends take donations of gently used books, CDs, and DVDs at all 16 branch locations throughout the year. Being a Friend of the Library gains you early admission to all book sales, numerous volunteer opportunities, and tax deductible membership dues.
