Carolina RailHawks Set Club Attendance Record

8,054 fans surpass RailHawks attendance record

CARY, NC March 20, 2013 – The Carolina RailHawks hosted Pumas UNAM Wednesday night in front of a club record 8,054 fans at the New WakeMed Soccer Park. A 2-1 result favored the visiting club and left every fan wanting more of the exciting end-to-end match. A RailHawks own goal opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Juan Pablo Rodriguez would strike in the 41^st minute doubling the Mexican club’s lead. The attack-minded RailHawks pulled one back when they struck in the 42^nd minute on a goal from RailHawks forward Zack Schilawski.

“I thought our team played very well tonight and was our best performance of the preseason,” said RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke. “Pumas were a very good team and we knew it was going to be a tough match. Once we settled in, we were very good and created a number of chances. Playing in an atmosphere like tonight is superb and great for our young team.”

While attempting to intercept a Pumas pass 25 yards out from goal, RailHawks midfielder Floyd Franks interception turned into a high arcing deflection that found the upper left corner of the RailHawks net, leaving RailHawks goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald with no opportunity of a save. Fitzgerald would go on to make 5 saves on the night. The visitor’s from Mexico would go up two goals on Rodriguez’s 41^st minute strike from the corner of the 6 yard box. Pumas’ Alfonso Nieto found space at the top of the RailHawks box and played a well timed pass to Rodriguez, who left little chance for Fitzgerald to come up with another miraculous save.

The RailHawks would strike back quickly in the 42^nd minute when Schilawski and strike partner Brian Shriver beat the Pumas defense with a quick passing sequence that left Schilawski one-on-one with the Pumas goalkeeper. Schilawski’s deft touch cut the Pumas lead to one going into halftime. Both teams continued to push the tempo in search of the next critical goal, entertaining the packed house at WakeMed Soccer Park along the way.

The RailHawks will open North American Soccer League play on the road in Tampa Bay on April 6^th before returning to North Carolina on April 13^th for the Grand Opening of the New WakeMed Soccer Park. Los RailHawks pierden partido de exhibición en contra de los Pumas 2-1

CARY, NC – Los Carolina RailHawks recibieron a los Pumas UNAM de México frente a 8,054 aficionados en el Nuevo WakeMed Soccer Park. El marcador de 2-1 favoreció al equipo visitante y dejo a los aficionados esperando más anotaciones. Un autogol en el minuto 16 abrió el marcador antes de que en el minuto 41 Juan Pablo Rodríguez anotara el segundo gol y le diera la ventaja al equipo mexicano. Los RailHawks con una mentalidad ofensiva no dejaron de atacar y en el minuto 42 Zack Schilawski abrió el marcador para los RailHawks.

“Yo siento que nuestro equipo jugó muy bien, creo que esta fue nuestro mejor juego de la pretemporada,” dijo el entrenador de los RailHawks, Colin Clarke. “Pumas fue un gran equipo, nosotros sabíamos que iba a ser un partido muy difícil. Después de los primeros minutos, logramos concretar buenas jugadas y tuvimos bastantes oportunidades de gol. Jugar con tanta gente en el estadio fue espectacular, muy bueno para nuestro jugadores jóvenes”.

Al tratar de interceptar un pase largo, el medio campista de los RailHawks Floyd Franks desvió el balón evitando que Akira Fitzgerald lograra evitar el primer gol de los Pumas. Fitzerald termino el partido con cinco tapadas extraordinarias. El equipo mexicano logro el segundo gol en el minuto 41 cuando Rodríguez disparo el balón afuera del área pequeña.

Los RailHawks lograron marcar su único gol del partido al minuto 42 cuando Schilawski y su compañero en la ofensiva Brian Shriver lograron concretar una secuencia de pases y batir a la defensa de los Pumas. La anotación de Schilawski permito acortar la distancia antes del medio tiempo. Ambos equipos trataron de mantener el ritmo y de buscar más anotaciones frente a las más de 8,000 personas que llenaron el Nuevo WakeMed Soccer Park.

Los RailHawks abrirán la temporada 2013 de la North American Soccer League el Sábado 6, de abril cuando visiten al campeón defensor Tampa Bay Rowdies, antes de regresar a casa el 13 de abril para La Gran Inauguración del Nuevo WakeMed Soccer Park.
