Taylor Wins Shot Put on Final Day of 49er Classic
NC State throwers conclude weekend with top performances
CHARLOTTE, NC March 16, 2013 – NC State redshirt sophomore Tremanisha Taylor completed a sweep of her throwing events this weekend, winning the women’s shot put and leading a series of successful performances by Wolfpack throwers on the final day of the 49er Classic at UNC Charlotte, Saturday afternoon.
Taylor, a two-time All-ACC selection in the women’s shot put, recorded a 49’ 4.75” mark to take top honors. The Lumberton, N.C., native owns the school record and won the ACC Championship in the event during the indoor season.
Taylor won the women’s discus Friday evening with a 166’ 4.00” performance.
Redshirt freshman SeQuoia Watkins also had a strong showing in the event, recording an outdoor personal-best 44’ 3.25” toss to take fourth place. Watkins recorded a 43’ 1.50” measurement as an unattached participant during the 2012 outdoor season.
Competing in the men’s discus, redshirt junior Nathaniel Williams notched a second-place finish with a 180’ 2.00” heave, while redshirt sophomore Jule Rich finished fifth with a 172’ 8.00” mark to place two Wolfpack throwers in the top five.
NC State will send competitors to the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla., while several team members will compete at the University of North Carolina next Friday and Saturday, Mar. 22-23.
