Clogged leaderboard in Kandy Waters Memorial Classic

North Augusta, SC March 15, 2013 – The Kandy Waters Memorial Classic has earned a reputation for attracting deep fields, and the 14th installment of the annual event will only bolster its status.

 

When play was suspended in the second round of the NGA TOUR event, six golfers were tied atop the leaderboard at Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club on Friday evening. Danny Eveyln, Alex Rowland, Tyson Alexander, Derek Rende, Adam Long and Zac Radford are 2-under par in the $200,000 tournament.

After the second frost delay in as many days, Evelyn and Rowland were the only two in the lead group to complete the second round on Friday. Evelyn, a former Florida Southern College standout from Lakeland, Fla., posted six birdies and three bogeys in the second round, while Rowland, a former Mississippi State golfer from Houston, Miss., posted an even-par 72 to remain at 2 under.

 

NGA Tour golfWhile they were unable to complete the second round on Friday, Long of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Alexander of Gainesville, Fla., Rende of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn., and Radford of Brentwood, Tenn., shot a 2-under 70s in the first round and still held a share of the lead when play was suspended.

 

Will McCurdy, Kent Bulle and Ted Smith were able to complete their second rounds and finished the day in a tie for seventh at 1-under par. Bulle, a former Middle Tennessee State standout from Glasgow, Ky., fired a 3-under 69 on Friday, while Auburn alum McCurdy and UNC alum Smith shot 74 and 75, respectively. Paul Apyan, Trent Whitekiller, Brian Richey and Derek Bohlen were unable to finish the second round, but their 1-under 71s in the first round left them tied for seventh.

 

The second round of the Kandy Waters Memorial Classic will resume at 8 a.m. and the third round is projected to begin at 11:30 a.m. As always, admission is free to the public.
