Empie Park, 3405 Park Avenue
Wilmington, NC March 11, 2013 – On Saturday, April 27, the City of Wilmington and the YMCA are partnering to present Healthy Kids Day® at Empie Park. Healthy Kids Day is the nation’s largest health day for kids. This is the second year that the City and YMCA are working together on this event. This is a free community event that will offer families the opportunity to participate in active play and educational opportunities designed to improve health and wellness. As part of the Y’s and City’s commitment to strengthening community by addressing critical gaps in health and education, Healthy Kids Day will encourage kids and parents to commit to keeping the body and mind active now and throughout the year.
Activities for kids 2 and up include health screenings/vendors, sports stations such as tennis, golf, volleyball, soccer, football, basketball, and hockey and other fun activities.
Mayor Bill Saffo said “The City is proud to be partnering again this year with the Wilmington Family YMCA to present Healthy Kids Day. Promoting health and wellness for our community is a goal that the YMCA and City share. By joining together for this event we will be working together towards that goal.”
Shannon Berg, the YMCA’s Director of Operations commented “The YMCA is very excited about partnering with the City to provide a larger outreach for our community.”
