College of Charleston Women’s Track & Field to Host Palmetto Classic

CHARLESTON, SC March 7, 2013 - The College of Charleston women’s track & field team will host their only home meet of the season as they co-host the Palmetto Classic with the Citadel on Friday at the Park West Complex in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

CofC head coach Amy Seago said she thinks this will be the most competitive meet they have hosted, with teams coming from as far away as Maine to compete.

“It is great to team up with the Citadel in hosting this event,” Seago said. “Track & Field is a sport where we can help each other become better by bringing out the highest level of competition in one another. Having our teams work together to put on a quality event is just another example of the lesson that when we give our best efforts (in academics, in athletics, in life) everyone around us benefits.”

Field events are set to begin at 12:00 p.m. with the hammer throw and events on the track will start at 1:00 p.m. with the women’s 3,000-meter run.

After a successful indoor season of track & field, this will be the Cougars first meet of the outdoor track & field season. The Cougars will have five meets this spring in preparation for the Southern Conference Outdoor Championship April 20-21 at Georgia Southern.

“Our team will be coming off of a week hiatus after indoor season,” Seago said. “We left a few things undone and the team is hungry to get back at it and show improvement each step of the way.”
