Spector, Neumann Earn CofC Student-Athlete Of The Week Honors
CHARLESTON, SC March 6, 2013 – Senior men’s sailor Ben Spector (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and freshman women’s golfer Julia Neumann (Berlin, Germany) earned College of Charleston Student-Athlete of the Week honors sponsored by Piggly Wiggly for the week of March 4.
Spector led the Cougars to a win in the Graham Hall Team Race, compiling a 20-2 record in the regatta in Annapolis, Md. The Cougars entered the weekend ranked third in the nation in the first ICSA Team Race Rankings and suffered only two losses, to second-place St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
Neumann won individual medalist honors on the final day of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic, taking first place by one stroke in the largest collegiate golf tournament in the nation with a final score of +3, after shooting a career-best round of 71 on Monday afternoon. She led the Cougars to a second-place team finish in the tournament.
