Pirates Shut Out UNC Asheville

ECU wins sixth-straight match with 4-0 victory

GREENVILLE, NC March 5, 2013 – The East Carolina men’s tennis team recorded its sixth consecutive victory with a 4-0 win over UNC Asheville at the River Birch Tennis Center Tuesday. Junior Joran Vliegen, sophomore Nicolas Soriano and senior John Schmitt earned singles wins.

East Carolina started the match by winning the doubles point over the Bulldogs. Vliegen and freshman Colin Roller topped Adrian Langeard and Matthew Waissen, 8-3, at No. 1. Soriano and sophomore Patriek Wolterbeek clinched the point at No. 3 with an 8-3 win over Alex Croker and Brett Landau.

Vliegen opened singles play with a straight-set victory over Langeard, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. Schmitt earned the third point of the match with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Daniel Kripak at No. 3. Soriano sealed the match with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 2 over Waissen.

ECU returns to the courts on Sunday against Kennesaw State with the first serve set for 12 p.m. on the Kennesaw campus.
