CLEMSON, SC March 3, 2013 – The NC State women’s basketball team shot 60.9 percent in the second half to bring home a 63-47 victory at Clemson on Sunday in the final game of the regular season.
NC State (15-15, 7-11 ACC) will now await word on seeding information for the ACC Tournament that will be announced by the ACC office this evening. The tournament begins Thursday in Greensboro, N.C., at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Len’Nique Brown, Markeisha Gatling and Myisha Goodwin-Coleman each scored 14 points to pace another balanced attack for the Wolfpack. Lakeesa Daniel hauled in a career-high 11 rebounds, while Brown once again led in assists with six.
NC State opened the second half the same way it ended the first with a 9-4 run to lead 35-25 after a Brown three-pointer at 16:31.
Clemson worked back to within two, but Goodwin-Coleman drained consecutive shots from downtown to increase the lead back to 47-37 midway through the second stanza.
After a Tigers timeout, NC State got a stop on defense, and Goodwin-Coleman made her third-straight trey at the other end to give the Pack its largest lead at that point, 50-37.
Gatling would convert an old-fashioned three-point play to increase the lead to 56-50, and Marissa Kastanek made one free throw after a Clemson technical foul to take the advantage up to a game-high 17 points with five minutes left.
The Pack made 14-of-23 shots in the second half, and 44.4 percent for the game, while Clemson finished at 33.9 percent for the game.
NC State did another great job defending the three-point line, limiting Clemson to 2-of-15 shooting from downtown. The last four Wolfpack opponents have shot a combined 4-for-50 from beyond the arc.
Aisha Turner led Clemson (9-20, 5-13 ACC) with 14 points. Quinyotta Pettaway and Nikki Dixon each added 11 points.
A low scoring first half saw the game tied 17-all, before NC State put together a 9-4 run over the final 4:21 to take a 26-21 lead at intermission.
Brown had seven points in the opening half, including two buckets in the final minute before intermission.
