Wilmington Sharks Announce First Signings for 2013
WILMINGTON, NC Feb. 28, 2013 – The Sharks are excited to welcome Mike Frank back to “The Shark Tank” for the 2013 season. Frank will be joined by his Falcon teammate CJ Losby.
Frank, The 6-4, 205 lb hard throwing right hander from Bowling Green finished his first season with the Sharks with two wins in 9 starts. He led the Sharks’ staff in innings pitched (57) fanning 56 batters while only walking 13. Mike has appeared in two games this year, as a red-shirt junior, for the Falcons striking out 12 batters, allowing just one free pass establishing a 1.50 ERA.
Losby will make his debut at “The Shark Tank” in 2013. The 6-1, 205 lb junior is off to a fast start this year, leading the Falcons hitting at a .346 clip with six RBI. In 2012, Losby split time between first base and the catcher position and will look to do the same for the Sharks this season. He finished the season third on the team in batting average (.319), playing in 53 games with 37 RBI and three home runs.
“We’re excited to have Frank back for another season,” said Sharks head coach Ryan McCleney. “His leadership will be integral in our pitching staff’s success this year. With Losby available to play multiple positions he will add depth to us defensively. Both these guys will be a big part of our push to bring the Petitt Cup to Wilmington.”
The Wilmington Sharks are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, entering their 17th season in the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 55 alums – including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander – make their Major League debut thus far.
