The Seahawks snapped a two-match losing streak and improved to 7-3 with the victory. CCU dropped to 2-3 on the season.

UNCW took two of the three matches in doubles play to claim the early point and then added all six singles pairings in thumping the Chanticleers.

In doubles play, the Chanticleers won the first match off the court at the No. 3 slot, but the Seahawks roared back with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to secure the crucial point. UNCW’s No. 1 team of seniors Kosta Blank and Chris Cooprider, ranked 15th by the ITA, cruised past Garik Yedigarian and Matias Di Pasquale, 8-4, and the No. 2 unit of Rafael Aita and Sam Williams, ranked 44th nationally, clinched the point by defeating Ted Nilsson and Yusuke Kusuda, 8-3.

The Seahawks did not lose a set in singles play and pushed their spring ledger to 46-13 in singles matches.

Aita, named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Player-of-the Week just minutes before the match, validated the choice by blitzing Yusuke Kusuda, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles to increase the score to 2-0. Blank then whipped Yedigarian, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 to make the score, 3-0. Cooprider delivered the clincher by stopping Leo Christofides, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.

Williams (No. 3), junior Pedro Mol (No. 6) and sophomore Zach Hublitz (No. 5) completed the rout with easy wins.

The Seahawks conclude the home stand on Saturday when Davidson visits Wilmington for a 1 p.m. match.
